Primary SIP - Summer Term Visit 2011 and Supporting Information for Future Arrangements for Headteacher Performance Management

A copy of the Record of Visit (RoV) including a summer term agenda, as well as supporting information for governors about the future arrangements for the performance management of the headteacher are available by clicking here.

The main focus of this term's visit is self-evaluation, summary statement of the school's effectiveness and future arrangements following the end of the SIP programme.

This is the final visit of the national SIP programme. The agenda will include a statement which validates the school's view of provision and its impact upon pupil achievement. This summary statement will be included in the subsequent written Record of Visit (ROV) and will take the place of the Annual Commentary for Governors. There will be no separate report for governors. SIPs may have arranged to meet with governors - either during the visit to the school or during an additional meeting with governors and this should still take place as necessary. At this meeting the SIP will share the summary statement and be available to discuss aspects of the school's self-evaluation, priorities and actions for further improvement.

A central part of the visit will focus on the future arrangements following the end of the SIP programme. SIPs will want to discuss with governors the arrangements that they are making for the headteacher's performance management during the autumn term 2011. Please see 'supporting information for governors about the future arrangements for the performance management of the headteacher'. Governing bodies are responsible for making arrangements for a suitably qualified, independent adviser to work with them on headteacher performance management. For the last few years this has been provided by the SIP system. Whilst every school will receive an annual visit from an Improvement Professional provided by the LA this will not include a focus on the headteacher's performance management. This service can be purchased from the LA. See MI sheet 114/11. If the school has already purchased a PIPP package then governors can use this to request an appropriate person to act as their independent adviser.

The headteacher may have already agreed a focus for a monitoring activity this term and this should take place as planned and reported as part of the ROV.

Headteachers are asked to take particular note this term of the preparation activities for this term's visit, especially in relation to the discussion with governors about future arrangements for headteacher performance management.
Therefore a governor or governors should attend this final SIP meeting.
