Admissions policy

School admission policy : 2014/15 (Agreed)

If there are more requests for places than places available, places will be allocated by applying the criteria in the order set out below:

  1. children who are due to transfer and are resident in the parishes served by the school (see above) who have a statement of special educational needs where the school has agreed that it can meet the needs outlined in the statement;

  2. children who are due to transfer and are children identified by the local authority as looked after children;

  3. children who are due to transfer, who are resident in the parishes served by the school and who have an older brother or sister already at the main school at the time of admission*;

  4. children who are due to transfer and who are resident in the parishes served by the school;

  5. children who are due to transfer and who reside outside the area served by the school but who have an older brother or sister already at the main school at the time of admission*;

  6. children who are due to transfer and are being taught in the primary school that serve the above parishes (see below) but are not resident in these parishes;

  7. children who are due to transfer and live outside the parishes served by the school;

  8. children residing both within and outside the area served by the school who wish to transfer prior to the age at which the high school normally admits (11+).

  9. Where it is not possible to admit all applicants within a particular category, places will be allocated to those children living nearest by straight line crow fly distance to the schools Bexwell Road site. Distance will be measured on a straight line crow fly basis using Ordnance Survey data.

    * Definition of sibling

    The governors extend the definition of the term sibling from natural brother/sister to include children born to differing parents but living in one family unit at one address. The definition also includes children in foster care within a family unit that contains children attending Downham Market High School.
