Use of School Premises
During the School Day by After School Childcare Clubs
Different
arrangements apply to lettings
that take place outside of funded school hours and to those that take
place within such hours.
The formula within the scheme of local management provides funding for school buildings to be open from 8.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. during term time. The Standard Scale of Letting Charges is intended to enable schools to recover the costs of lettings that take place outside these funded hours. This is important in ensuring that a school's budget is not used to subsidise lettings. The most significant component within the Standard Scale is an allowance for caretakers to lock or unlock the school.
Lettings that take place during the school day should not be based on the Standard Scale. Use by After School Childcare Groups normally take place wholly or mainly during the hours in which the school is funded. Consequently the additional costs incurred are marginal and any charge should only include specific additional costs that the school can identify. If such costs are identified these should form the basis of discussion with the After School Childcare Club about an appropriate charge.
