Support Service Traveller Education Service
|
I am writing to let you know of some changes in the management of the Traveller Education Service and the English Language Support Service.
Following discussions with staff and professional associations last term, I am writing to confirm that the following activities will no longer be delivered as part of Pupil Access and Support Services:
· The provision of specific pupil support to those from minority ethnic backgrounds, including refugees and asylum seekers in the form of the English Language Support Service (ELSS).
· The advice and support to pupils who are from the Traveller Community in the form of the Traveller Education Service (TES)
With effect from 1st April 2003 these services will continue to be provided by the County Council’s education department as part of the Norfolk Education Advisory Services led by Fred Corbett, Assistant Director.
We believe that, as a result of this management move, these services will be better placed to continue to raise the achievement of pupils and to promote cultural diversity in schools, and to support you and your staff in meeting the needs of ethnic minority pupils.
I would like to reassure you that this will not directly affect the quality of service delivery to your school as the current functions of the services will be unchanged.
I hope you find this information helpful and that you will continue to value highly the work of the services under their new management arrangements. If you have any further queries, please contact the respective Heads of Service Sarah Barney (ELSS) on 01603 764707 or Lorna Daymond (TES) on 01603 766133.
Yours sincerely,
DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION
