Dear Colleague

Re: Gifted and Talented Pupils - Supplementary Guidance for Teachers Document

One of the LEA’s major initiatives over the next twelve months is the promotion of the Gifted and Talented Strand of the LEA’s Education Development Plan. The Gifted and Talented development represents one of the major planks of the LEA’s Inclusion Strategy.  This letter introduces the publication of the LEA’s Supplementary Guidance on Gifted and Talented Pupils.  This will be sent to schools in late April/early May 2003.

Over 250 schools attended the launch of the Gifted and Talented Pupils in Norfolk Schools, Policy, Principles and Procedures resource across the County in March/April. One re-arranged launch is scheduled to take place at the West Norfolk Professional Development Centre at 9.30 am on 19th May 2003. A final launch session will take place at the end of the summer term on 10th July 2003, at 4.15 pm, at the Norwich Professional Development Centre, for any of you unable to attend the earlier sessions.

We are following these up with an RDA audit of the present Gifted and Talented provision during the summer term. This will inform the need for further advice, training and the next steps necessary for school, which could be provided by members of the Advisory Service. I hope you will fully support these developments in your school and I believe it will impact positively on standards across all age ranges and in all schools.

Please return the attached proforma by Monday, 2nd June 2003 if you would like to attend the final launch. If you have any queries about this development please contact Dave Bullard (Senior Adviser and Lead Officer for Gifted and Talented Developments).

Yours sincerely
