Dear Colleague
DfES Termly
Exclusions Data Collection Requirements
I write to brief you on new DfES requirements for the collection of exclusions data.
At present, schools are required to tell the LEA immediately about all permanent exclusions and those of longer than five days and are advised to tell us about all other exclusions. The DfES makes an annual PLASC collection of permanent exclusions for the previous school year.
The new requirement is for LEA's to make electronic submission to the DfES each term which lists all fixed-period and permanent exclusions with details of the pupil, the length of exclusion and the reason for it. This new requirement also incorporates revised classification of the reasons for exclusion.
In order to provide the termly submission to the DfES, we have had to revise our procedures for collecting data from schools and the form we use to do that.
Please therefore would you use the attached form to inform us of all exclusions.
Please note the new data requirements listed on page 2 of the form.
I should be grateful if you would use this new form immediately. Completed forms should be sent to Sally Moy, at Boardman House, Norwich.
James Thatcher will be pleased to deal with any comments or questions you may have about this revised procedure.
Yours sincerely,
Bryan Slater
Director of Education
