June 2003
To: All Norfolk Headteachers
Dear Colleague
I hope you will find it helpful to see the enclosed letter sent to me recently by Stephen Crown at the DfES. Stephen is responsible for all aspects of LEA funding, but took up his post only relatively recently – after the funding arrangements for this current year had already been decided.
You will see that the DfES is clear about its intentions for 2004/5, and that it is seeking to learn from the problems of 2003/4. To that end, there is currently regular (weekly) contact with CEO’s, who are helping the DfES to find appropriate solutions that will result in their aims for the next year being achievable. This clearly presents a very significant challenge, nevertheless.
There will be an update on the national position and a chance to discuss local issues arising form the present funding problem at Headteacher meetings between now and the end of term.
I would be grateful if you would share the information contained in this letter with your Chairman of Governors.
Yours sincerely
DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION
