Dear
Headteacher,
You
may be aware that the GMB – Britain’s General Union – are involved nationally
with the DFES School workforce re-modelling Group Working Party. Along with all
relevant bodies including NAHT and teaching unions, they are looking to address
the issues of teacher workload and the subsequent impact re-modelling the
School workforce would automatically have on school support staff.
We
support the fact they want to see teachers freed up to spend more time
teaching, they want administrative work done by administrators and teaching assistants
involved in the delivery of education. We believe that any significant changes
needs full consultation with staff and their relevant Trade Unions.
We
are writing to you with a view to visiting your school and meeting with the
support staff. The purpose of the meeting will be to explain the varying
aspects of this working party and for them to have a constructive input into
moving the re-modelling agenda forward. I know you will agree that support
staff make an invaluable contribution to the school and pupils’ education and
we feel it is imperative their views and opinions are calculated.
One
of our GMB officers will be calling you to organise a time and date that is not
only convenient to yourself but has the least interference on the day to day running
of the establishment. If you are able to provide us with a date that may be
suitable, then please contact me on any of the numbers listed below.
In
closing, I would ask all those in charge of educational establishments to
recognise the advantages of having organisational arrangements in place which
enables effective communication with those involved regarding any developments
or changes which may occur from time to time.
Thanking you in anticipation of your co-operation in assisting us with
these arrangements.
Yours sincerely,
