Dear
Headteacher
You may be aware that one outcome of the LEA’s last inspection by Ofsted is a requirement for us to develop a more coherent and comprehensive view of levels of attainment in ICT, especially at the end of key stage 2.
At the moment, there is no statutory obligation for schools to provide this information so, to date, we have not arranged for it to be gathered through the Phoenix System. In responding to the Ofsted findings, however, we are working with the Management Information Centre to make it possible for schools to input pupil level ICT teacher assessment data into Phoenix from the summer of 2004. This will then be collected online (with other pupil level data), analysed and ‘reflected’ back to schools in summary form to support target setting and future school improvement and development planning.
Several factors, including the lead-time for new developments in Phoenix, mean that these arrangements will not be available until next year. In the interim, it would be extremely helpful if you could provide us with school level data for summer 2003. We are very conscious of the need not to impose undue administrative burdens on schools so we have enclosed a form with this letter. It requires a straightforward numerical entry to indicate the percentage of pupils achieving teacher-assessed levels W, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 (or above) in ICT at the end of key stage 2 in 2003.
In order for us to arrange the timely processing of
the data, could I ask for a return by September 30th. Completed forms should be sent by post,
email or fax to Anne Mitchell at the Professional Development Centre, Woodside
Road, NORWICH NR7 9QL (Fax: 01603
700236 Email: anne.mitchell@norfolk.gov.uk )
Please
accept my thanks in anticipation of your cooperation in helping us to meet this
requirement from Ofsted. If you have
any questions, please contact Tony Payne (Tony.Payne@norfolk.gov.uk) or David
Orsborne (David.Orsborne@norfolk.gov.uk)
at the Norwich Professional Development Centre and they will be pleased to try
and help.
Yours
sincerely
