Foundation Stage eProfile

I am writing to inform you of the eProfile which was developed as an electronic means of recording ongoing observations on pupils during the foundation stage based on the scales booklet for pupils. It gives teachers and practitioners a simple means of recording observations on an incremental basis and summarising those observations at the end of the foundation stage. The eProfile will also enable practitioners to compare their pupils’ assessments in a number of ways; boys and girls in bar chart and radar format, and incremental progress over the year.

A small number of Norfolk schools trialled the eProfile last year and found it helpful in making the ongoing assessments and using the information for further analysis.

The DfES has provided an up-to-date version of the Foundation Stage eProfile software, together with “User Manual (Version 2)”. These can be downloaded from the following website and there is no cost involved:

There is no technical support provided by DfES, but guidance notes for exporting pupil details out of Phoenix ready for importing into the eProfile have been provided by ICT Solutions and, in the summer term, guidance notes for transferring eProfile exports into Phoenix will be available. (It will not be necessary to transfer data from eProfile into Phoenix until the end of the academic year, when the scoring is complete.)

The use of the Foundation Stage eProfile is optional, but if you decide to make use of it I am sure you will find it helpful.
