To
Headteachers of Primary, Middle and Junior Schools
In addition to the estimates used to assist with target setting, the Fischer Family Trust has also produced some analyses on “Estimates against Actuals”. Comparing actual performance against estimates provides a measure of how the progress made by pupils in your school compares with that made by pupils elsewhere.
Enclosed are school-level reports showing KS2 actual results for your school in 2002, against estimates based on the same pupils’ KS1 results. (The KS2 results may differ from your school’s results last year, this is because the report is based only on pupils with both KS2 and KS1 results; the number of matched pupils is shown.) Where there is a significant difference between an actual result and the estimate, this is indicated by a light or dark shaded box. Light shading indicates a significantly higher result than expected; dark shading indicates a significantly lower result than expected. It is important to try and identify the reasons for any significant differences in your school.
I have produced a guidance sheet to refer to when looking at these reports, but if you have any further queries, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
If you would find it helpful to have your school’s Fischer Trust data electronically, in order to use the information in spreadsheet form, please let me know and I can arrange to send you a disc.
Yours sincerely,
Chris Jackson
