ALL CENTRAL AREA HEADTEACHERS

Dear Colleague,

School Improvement Support

You will know that Jeff Gough, the Senior Education Officer responsible for School and L.E.A. Effectiveness, will leave his post at the end of January.  Jeff has been an influential and highly-valued colleague, who is widely respected throughout the County and we wish him a long and happy retirement.

Richard Potts, currently the School Improvement Support Officer in the Central Area, will be replacing Jeff as Senior Education Officer from 1st February.  For an interim period, from February to the end of the Spring term, Jeff has kindly agreed to defer his well deserved retirement, to act as School Improvement Support Officer (Central) and to provide continuity during the hand-over period.

At the same time we are taking the opportunity to refocus the School Improvement Team to meet a range of new national and local initiatives.

Tim Newton, the School Improvement Support Officer currently based in King's Lynn, will move to the Central Area at Easter.

Tim Newton's replacement in the Western Area will be Mike Simm.  Mike is newly-appointed to Norfolk, having worked in a wide variety of schools.  He is currently the Key Stage 3 Strategy Manager and an adviser with Liverpool L.E.A.

In the South/East, Bill Russell, formerly the Senior Adviser for School Effectiveness, has taken over as the School Improvement Support Officer, following Harmer Parr's appointment to Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Schools. Chris Wilson-Town remains as School Improvement Support Officer in the Northern Area, based in North Walsham.

Chris Hey, the Senior Education Officer who has been involved in school support and partnership work in West Norfolk, will take up a Countywide brief to support the development of increased partnership working.  He will also assume school improvement responsibilities for the Thetford schools.

The L.E.A. is committed to continuous improvement in its services to schools and looks forward to continued close collaboration and partnership with you.  This letter has been copied to your Chair of Governors, for information

Yours sincerely,

Sue Rossiter

Deputy Director of Education
