ALL SOUTH-EAST AREA HEADTEACHERS

Dear Colleague,

School Improvement Support

You will know that Jeff Gough, the Senior Education Officer responsible for School and L.E.A. Effectiveness, will leave his post at the end of January.  Jeff has been an influential and highly-valued colleague, who is widely respected throughout the County and we wish him a long and happy retirement.

Richard Potts, currently the School Improvement Support Officer in the Central Area, will be replacing Jeff from February 1st.

At the same time we are taking the  opportunity to refocus school support work, to meet a range of new national and local initiatives.

Following Harmer Parr's move to join Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Schools, Bill Russell has taken over as the School Improvement Support Officer for the South/Eastern Area.  Formerly the Senior Adviser for School Effectiveness, Bill's local knowledge and professional expertise will be a significant asset to the School Improvement Team.

Elsewhere in the County, Tim Newton, the School Improvement Support Officer (SISO) in the Western Area, will leave King's Lynn at Easter, to take responsibility for the Central Area, based in Norwich.  His post will be taken over by newly-appointed SISO, Mike Simm.  Mike is currently the Key Stage 3 Strategy Manager and an adviser in Liverpool L.E.A.

Chris Hey, the Senior Education Officer who has been involved in school support and partnership work in West Norfolk, will take up a Countywide brief to support the development of increased partnership working.  He will also assume school improvement responsibilities for the Thetford Schools.

Chris Wilson-Town will remain as School Improvement Support Officer in the Northern Area, based in North Walsham.

The L.E.A. is committed to continuous improvement in its services to schools and looks forward to continued close collaboration and partnership with you.  This letter has been copied to your Chair of Governors, for information.

Yours sincerely,

Sue Rossiter

Deputy Director of Education
