Follow-up to MI 147/01 detailing action required, clarity on specific issues relating to applying for threshold assessment in 2001, training for Headteachers with relevant dates and contact points.

Summary of action required

Refer for action to MI 147/01 and note:-

Teachers can apply in 2001 if:

They are a qualified teacher in England and Wales who:

  • is legally covered by the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document;
  • is paid on the Qualified Teachers' pay scale for classroom teachers;
  • on or after 1st September, 2000 but before 31st July, 2001 was placed on point 9 of the pay scale for classroom teachers as defined by qualifications and the number of experience points; and
  • meets the above conditions on the date of applying.

Key dates:

  • the deadline for teachers to submit applications to their Head is 29th October, 2001;
  • Heads to notify CEA of number of threshold applications submitted at their school by 5th November, 2001;
  • the deadline for Heads to submit assessed applications to CEA is 7th December, 2001;
  • 31st December - threshold assessment visits commence.
  • successful applicants will move to the first point of the upper pay scale backdated to 1st September, 2001, a consolidated pay increase of £2,076.

 

 

Summary of action required (contd ..)

Threshold training for Headteachers:

  • the training will cover how the threshold process operates and gives Heads the opportunity to understand the role they have to play;
  • it will consist of practically based training and include case studies.

Who can go?

  • existing Heads who missed the training last year;
  • new Heads of schools, PRUs, nurseries and services;
  • some places for Leadership Group members from schools who anticipate large numbers of threshold applications this year.
