NORFOLK EDUCATION STAFF WELL-BEING PROJECT

I am writing to you with some good news. You may know that the Well-Being Project is a pioneering scheme run by Education Personnel Services on behalf of all LEA employees, and that it complements the Norfolk Support Line counselling service. There has been so much interest in the well-being programme in Norfolk that the number of schools becoming directly involved has far exceeded our expectations. As the Project approaches the end of its two-year pilot phase (at Easter, 2001), I am pleased to inform you that we have gained enough advance funding already for this important programme to continue.

The Well-Being Project currently makes use of funding from several sponsorsing bodies, including TBF: Teacher Support Network, Norfolk County Council, and the Health and Safety Executive. The funding picture for next year is by no means complete, but for 2001 we have already secured financial support from the County Council’s Risk and Insurance Section and from Norfolk LEA. This will enable us to make further progress:

to continue to offer an inclusive, centrally-co-ordinated, yet totally confidential service to the school and services which currently participate
to extend the range of the project’s reach to more schools and services

to build further information into our unique research database on well-being
to continue to offer specific training to organisation, and preparation and networking opportunities for Well-Being Facilitators
to apply what we learn from evaluation: findings reported by the UEA’s Centre for Applied Research in Education, from the Project team, and from the experience of the 100+ Facilitators we now have in Norfolk
to extend the support and encouragement we are able to offer to other parts of the County Council and to other interested LEAs
to cease to be a "project", and to become, instead, a substantive aspect of the way in which Norfolk values and supports all its employees I feel sure that you will join with me in welcoming this news, and that together we can continue to work for the well-being of our staff.

You may like to know that a feature on Norfolk’s Well-Being Project appeared in the Times Education Supplement (magazine section) on Friday 27^th October.
