Title

School Term/Holiday Dates 2003/04

Summary of contents

Following consultation with the JCC Teachers' Panel, the school term/holiday dates for 2003/04 have been agreed. The dates are set out in the attached sheet. These dates have also been published on the LEA's website.

The dates have been set in line with the following established principles;

  • half term holidays to be full weeks, Monday to Friday inclusive;
  • Christmas and Easter breaks to be two full weeks, i.e. beginning on a Monday and ending on a Friday to obtain the benefit of three full weekends;
  • the school year to start in the first week of September as time spent in school in September is deemed to be more beneficial than time spent in late July.

Please note that the LEA, alongside neighbouring LEAs in the eastern region, will undertake consultation on the recommendations of the Independent Commission on the Six Term Year during the summer term. A copy of the Commission's full report The Rhythms of Schooling may be found on the LEA's website:

www.esinet.norfolk.gov.uk

You will see that our published dates for 2003/04 are very similar to those recommended by the Commission for that year but they could be subject to change following consideration of the Commission's recommendations.
