Norfolk County Council, in partnership with the District authorities and Norfolk Police, is running Risk Awareness Week in October 2000. The theme for the week is Community Risks.
High school pupils are invited to enter a competition that could win their school £250 worth of audio equipment vouchers. The winning pupil or pupils will get £100 worth of CD vouchers.
This is an opportunity to raise pupils’ awareness of community and personal safety matters and to address aspects of Curriculum 2000 schemes of work.
Pupils should consider how community and personal safety could be improved by: -
Preventing risks to people (eg. from fire and air pollution or hazards encountered in the home and at school)
or
Making the community we live in safer (eg. from crime, vandalism, bullying, violence, drugs or from traffic; or by improving our health)
Pupils should consider the things that could cause harm in these situations and suggest ways to deal with them.
Pupils should devise a short performance on these themes of up to 5-6 minutes in length employing any combination of drama, music, verse or even dance. Entries should be submitted on video for judging. Each school should send one video only.
Pupils will work on their entries between June and the end of September.
Completed entries should be sent to:
Paul Commins (Assistant Health and Safety Officer), Room 19, County Hall by Friday 29th September 2000.
The winning school will receive audio equipment vouchers for £250 with the winning pupils receiving CD vouchers for £100. The runner up school will receive audio equipment vouchers for £100 with the runner up pupils receiving CD vouchers for £50.
The winning entry will be performed at the launch of Risk Awareness Week on Monday 16th October at Norwich City Football Ground. It is hoped that there will be media presence at the launch.
