Dear Headteacher

NGFL FUNDING - AUGUST 2002 TARGETS

You will recall that I wrote to you in January outlining the three categories of funding available for NGFL in 2001/02. I also asked you to provide some further information on the level of computer provision in your school. (A copy of this January letter can be found at the following web address http://ictsolutions.norfolk.gov.uk).

I would now appreciate your further assistance to help identify the additional funding your school should receive and help the LEA complete a school progress report requested by the DfEE.

A web site has been created which includes the information previously provided by each school with a projection of necessary investment to achieve the DfEE August 2002 targets. The baseline targets are:

I would ask that you visit this web site. On entering the site click on "NGfL Survey" in the index and enter your school name or location number and the information relating to your school will appear. Please check your information and modify as necessary by completing the "Return information" by 20 July 2001.

Definition of terms can be found within the web site.

I appreciate the information may not be 100% accurate for your school nor complete - your assistance is therefore essential to enable the most up to date picture of provision across the County to be produced.

The DfEE have given guidance on what should be counted as curriculum computers:

" Which computers should be included?

The following should not contribute towards computer to pupil ratios:

I would stress it is important that you complete the return to access additional NGfL funding.

It is proposed that primary schools with more than 176 pupils should have within the school a fileserver to ensure an effective school network.

In respect of the secondary schools Mike Cooke has begun a series of visits to clarify individual school needs.

Once I have returns from all schools, additional funding will be allocated to achieve the August 2002 baseline targets. It is proposed that the initial recipient will be NGfL Phase I and II primary schools. It is proposed to outline to schools at the start of the Autumn term how it is intended to provide the additional infrastructure and PCs to schools.

I will continue to keep schools abreast of developments during the coming months by the use of the fortnightly ICT Newsletter. However if you have any individual concerns please contact Mike Cooke at 01603 222021 (fax 01603 222505) or by email mike.cooke.edu@norfolk.gov.uk

Yours sincerely
