Dear Colleague

Three Year old funding - Autumn Term 2000

As you will be aware, Government three year old funding was introduced in nine wards in Norfolk in the Summer 2000 term. For the Autumn 2000 term additional funding has been made available. This means that 233 places for up to five sessions per week will now be funded.

Children born between 1st September 1996 and 31st December 1996, ie those children whose fourth birthday falls during the Autumn 2000 term, who have addresses and postcodes within the targeted wards, will be eligible for funding.

This funding will be available in the following 21 wards/parishes in the Autumn term, ie in the 9 wards targeted previously plus an additional 12 wards. New areas are in italics: -

Great Yarmouth: -

Claydon, Magdalen East, Magdalen West, Northgate, Yarmouth North

King’s Lynn: -

Gaywood South, Lynn Central, Lynn North, Lynn South West, St Margaret’s

Norwich: -

Bowthorpe, Catton Grove, Heigham, Henderson, Lakenham, Mancroft, Mile Cross, Mousehold

Thetford: -

Thetford Abbey, Thetford Saxon, Thetford Barnham

Postcode lists for the above wards are enclosed for providers in those areas. The list will enable providers to identify in advance of the new term those children attending their provision who will be eligible for three year old funding. It will also enable providers to make parents of those children aware of their entitlement.

Four year old funding continues in the normal way in the Autumn 2000 term and claim forms for both three and four year old funding will be sent out at the the end of July by Education Finance.

In addition to this, providers in Norwich and Great Yarmouth will again be able to access Sure Start three year old funding for children with addresses in theThorpe Hamlet and Great Yarmouth Sure Start areas. Claim forms for funding through this route will be sent separately.

Any providers who are not currently in the Early Years Development and Childcare Plan for the purposes of three or four year old funding will need formally to join the plan in order to claim funding for three year olds. For further information on joining, please contact Paul Commins on 01603 223470.

Yours sincerely
