JANUARY RETURN 2001 - SECONDARY SECTOR SCHOOLS
Guidance Notes for the Completion of the January 2001 Return
1. Attached to these notes are the following:
- Documentation Checklist
- Appendix 1 – Predicted Roll Return
- Appendix 2 – Pupils and Staff export files templates
- DfEE Annual Schools Census Form and Guidance Notes
Please Note. A manual return of the above information should only be made if you are unable to use your schools computerised records to produce the required pupil and staff information export files. Please refer to the notes included in Appendix 2.
2. Pupils on roll for the Annual School Census January 2001 should be classified by age as at 31st August 2000.
The information requested is required for a number of purposes, which benefit both the LEA and schools.
- The forecasts of future pupil numbers will be used for education planning purposes including the development and planning of school places. The January 2002 estimates of pupil numbers contribute to the provision of school resource allocations.
- The pupil lists are shared with the Health Trusts. This enables the Health Trusts to implement and monitor their child health programmes and allows for nurses to have accurate pupil list when coming into school. It is important that the information asked for in Appendix 2 is accurate and up to date.
- The pupil lists also help with other areas of work such as the Review of School Organisation, bids by the LEA to the DfEE to secure maximum levels of funding and value added work such as the production of the Improving Performance Step by Step booklet.
- The pupil numbers from the Annual School Census will be used to assist in the calculation of resource allocations
Please complete two copies of the January Annual School Census Return and Export Files and forwarded them to Elaine McKinna, Management Information Centre, Room B28, Education Department, County Hall, Martineau Lane, Norwich, NR1 2DL by the dates specified on the documentation checklist.
