Letter to all Schools

Dear Colleague

You will recall I wrote to all schools under MI 245/01 prior to the Christmas holiday. The purpose of this was to seek opinion on Fire Inspection Companies following a recent incident which compromised safety.

I am now in a position to let you know the findings:

• 290 returns were received from schools.

I am satisfied that this incident, although not isolated to the one school, was in fact isolated to just one inspector employed by UK Fire International Ltd.

The company have carried out their own investigation and have provided a report which indicates that they have re-visited the premises served by this rogue inspector, re-checked all appliances and gave credit notes were discrepancies were noted.

In conclusion, UK Fire have responded in an urgent and professional manner once alerted to this situation. The rogue inspector has been dismissed, many changes to quality control and auditing have been implemented.

From the point of view of safety there is no reason not to continue using UK Fire for such work. Schools are however entirely free to make their own decisions and will no doubt base them on their own experiences.
