To: Headteachers of all High Schools (for Heads of PE)
Dear Colleague
Re: County PE Steering Groups
As part of our strategic approach to PE and Sports development in schools we have started a county-wide support network – the PE and Sport Associations. Initial indications show that these are being very well received with the majority of schools represented at the initial meetings having committed to the network already.
An additional aspect of this network is the need to develop steering groups around key issues in the process of raising standards in the teaching and learning of PE in our schools. These groups would help develop policy and practice in their areas, allowing the network to disseminate the information across all schools in Norfolk.
If you or anyone in your department would like to become involved in these groups, please contact me in order to discuss things further. This is an opportunity for Continued Professional Development and could be part of a teacher’s performance management portfolio. In terms of workload, I would envisage one meeting per term with a small amount of work between times.
The groups that I would initially like to set up are outlined below together with the proposed date of the first meeting for each. If you would like to be involved and can make the dates listed then please contact me to register your interest and discuss it further.
Assessment in PE 18 April 1:30 pm
Early Years PE 22 May 1:30 pm
‘A’ Level PE 21 June 1:30 pm
GCSE PE 21 June 9:00 am
Sport in Schools 26 June 1:30 pm
The issues highlighted above are the initial aspects that have been identified in terms of raising standards and the profile of PE and Sport in Norfolk schools. I would be happy to discuss additional aspects which colleagues feel could or should be developed.
I very much look forward to hearing from you and would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support.
Yours sincerely
Martin Radmore
