TO ALL HEADTEACHERS AND CHAIRS OF GOVERNORS OF SECONDARY SCHOOLS WITH SIXTH FORMS

Dear Colleague

Re: Norfolk Sixth Form Review

You will be aware that, with the introduction of the Learning & Skills Act, the Norfolk LSC has new powers and responsibilities. In order to facilitate the quality assurance of the standards of our sixth form provision, I have agreed with John Brierley (Chief Executive of Norfolk LSC) that the annual review of the sixth forms will be shared with the LSC. This has been agreed by your colleague headteachers at the Post-16 Executive Group meeting.

In practice, this will mean that two separate review forms will be completed and agreed by you, your Chair of Governors and your Review and Development Adviser. The one for the main school will continue to be confidential to the school and the LEA. The Sixth Form Review, attached, will be forwarded to the LSC by the LEA on receipt from your RDA. The LSC will have no remit, nor indeed do they want, to change the review in any way. The initial sixth form review will take place during this term - Summer 2002.

In consultation with headteachers, we agreed that it made more sense if the annual review of sixth forms was carried out early in the Spring Term when the full range of data is available. The second sixth form review will take place in January 2003 and then annually at that time.

I hope that you are assured that, through this well-established system, you can share with the LSC key information about your sixth form. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Terry Cook or Yvonne Barclay on Norwich (01603) 433276.

Yours sincerely
