Dear Headteacher

NORFOLK’S ICT STRATEGIC PLAN FOR SCHOOLS 2004 – 2007

With the help of colleagues in schools, we have been developing a vision for ICT in Norfolk Schools.  The Vision and the ICT strategic plan were officially launched at the Norfolk ICT in Schools Conference March 2004.  I am pleased to enclose a copy of both documents.  For a brief overview of the ICT strategic plan please see the Executive Summary.

The ICT strategic plan is supported by the following appendices:

Appendix A: ICT in Schools; Norfolk’s Vision

Appendix B: School ICT self-evaluation tool

Appendix C: LEA Milestones 2004 – 2007

Appendix D: Technology Road Maps (covers networks, hardware, and Operating Systems)

These appendices, along with the enclosed documents, can be found on the ICT Solutions website http://ictsolutions.norfolk.gov.uk.  Select the A-Z, then under C select ‘Conference – ICT in Schools 2004’ and finally select ‘Strategy Plan’ on the left-hand side menu.

One of the key components of the strategy is the school ICT self-evaluation tool (SET), appendix B.  It has been developed by the Advisory Service with the assistance of schools.  It enables schools to determine the stage that has been reached in achieving the Norfolk Vision for ICT.  The SET is now available as an online tool on the ICT Solutions website http://ictsolutions.norfolk.gov.uk, and can be found within your school's NGfL Tracker.  Select the A-Z, then under ‘N’ select ‘NGfL Tracker’.  I would encourage all schools to complete this online self-evaluation.

If you have any questions about the Self-Evaluation Tool or need advice or support to help you complete it, please contact Tony Payne, ICT Adviser, at the Norwich Professional Development Centre, on 01603 433276, who will be pleased to help.

In due course, the LEA will access the data, which the Self-Evaluation Tool produces, in order to establish an overview of progress towards the Norfolk Vision.

Please provide feedback on any of the above documents to Karen Atkinson, ICT Development Manager, Education Financial and ICT Services, e-mail address: karen.atkinson@norfolk.gov.uk.

Yours sincerely

Director of Education
