Summary of
contents |
Whilst performing a recent bank reconciliation, a member of a school’s staff noticed a cheque had been debited to the account in the sum of £19,920, The number of the cheque was not in the sequence of those being used. A copy of the cheque was obtained for examination, from which it was noted that there were a number of differences in format to the official cheque stationery in use. It appears that this could be the result of a scanning operation. Police have been informed, and investigations are continuing. Finance staff in schools should be aware of this type of scam, and ensure that prompt and thorough checks are performed on all bank accounts. Contact you bank immediately should you account show an incorrect debit. |
