Financial Support for Sixth Form Students (Learner Support Funds)

Arrangements for the Academic Year 2004/05

I attach updated information and guidance notes about Learner Support Funds for Sixth Form students during the period September 2004 to July 2005. Supplies of application forms (yellow paper) should arrive at the same time as this letter.

The amount of your allocation of Learner Support Funds for the period September 2004 to July 2005 will be notified in a separate letter very shortly.

The main changes for 2004/05 are summarised in paragraph 2 of the guidance notes. In view of the reduced level of funding and the fact that Year 12 students will be able to apply for the EMA (Education Maintenance Allowance) it is recommended that the Learner Support Funds are used primarily to provide financial help for Year 13 students in 2004/05. However help from Learner Support Funds may be paid in addition to EMA if the circumstances justify it. Further guidance is given in paragraph 7.2.

I am enclosing an additional copy of this letter and attachment for you to pass on to your Head/Director of Sixth Form.

Yours sincerely,

David Andrews
