CLA SURVEY OF PHOTOCOPYING IN SCHOOLS

I am writing to advise that The Copyright Licensing Agency is planning to conduct a survey in selected schools during the spring term 2005.

The survey will enable CLA to establish the nature and quantity of material copied in schools. The information will be used to determine the distribution of the licence fees to authors, artists and publishers of CLA licensed material.

In accordance with the current terms and conditions of our licence we are required, if requested, to participate in any such survey.

If your school is chosen you will receive a visit from CLA staff to explain the details of the survey and the process involved. I am assured by CLA that the procedure is simple and requires minimal additional effort on behalf of participating establishments. The survey will start as soon as possible after the beginning of the spring term and will last for a period of 50 working days only.

It should be noted that the survey is not a “policing” exercise; the re-distribution of fees is the sole purpose.

If your school is selected CLA will initially send you an information form for you to fill in so they can ascertain how many photocopiers you have and where they are located. It is most important that this form is completed and returned to CLA as soon as possible after receipt.
