Dear Colleagues

Re: Consultation on Proposed Admission Number for academic year 2005/06

        Foundation and Voluntary Aided Schools

As you will be aware, all Foundation and Voluntary Aided Schools must consult with all other Norfolk Schools and the LEA on their proposed admission arrangements. The timescales for the 2005/06 Admission Numbers (AN) is that consultations should be completed by 1st March 2004 and the outcome determined and notified by 15th April 2004.

You will appreciate that the LEA has a strategic role in planning school places across the county and will have a view in this context on proposed Admission Numbers for VA and Foundation Schools. Enclosed with this letter is a copy of the DfES Net Capacity Assessment for your school and a plan derived from information held by the LEA. The assessment produces a pupil capacity range on the basis of which an appropriated Admission Number is set. You will see that the LEA has provided a suggested AN for your school for the September 2005 intake.

I should be most grateful to receive your feedback on the attached form by 1st March, to confirm:

(a)   the accuracy of the accommodation schedule and plan, i.e. that all rooms are shown on the plan and listed on the schedule with their usages correctly recorded. Should you wish to suggest amendments please indicate them on the plan and schedule as appropriate and return to the LEA as detailed below.

NB. It has come to our notice that a few schools have carried out improve-ment projects to their premises but have not supplied any or, sufficient information for us to be able to update the accommodation schedules with extensions/alterations to floor areas and any changes to room usage. This is particularly important where a teaching area is concerned as this will have a direct effect on the number of teaching places available and possibly the schools’ admission number.

(b) your agreement to the suggested admission number for September 2005 or an alternative proposal.

School reorganisations effective in 2004 and 2005 have been anticipated. Capital building projects due to complete between now and September 2004 have also been accounted for where teaching space is affected and information is available. Where changes in these timescales are anticipated but information is not yet available, an explanatory footnote will be included in the 'information to parents' booklet.

Your cooperation in completing the above exercise will be a key component in the overall drive by the LEA to ensure the data used by you and us for Asset Management Planning purposes is robust and reliable. During the coming months further verification of schools Sufficiency and Capacity information will take place, similar to the review of Suitability data in 2003. To this end it may be necessary for us to make further contact with some schools, however, this will only occur where necessary.

Please return your feedback on the attached form and plan to Simon Conner in the Education Department Planning and Buildings Team as soon as possible but no later than 1st March 2004, indicating your agreement or otherwise to the proposed Admission Number.

If you have any queries or wish to discuss this matter, please telephone one of the following members of the Strategic Support Team during normal office hours or send an email to the address given:
