Dear Colleague

Value Added - Key Stage 1 (1999) to Key Stage 2 (2003)

I am pleased to be able to send you a new pack of “value added” information showing progress from KS1 to KS2.  Our analysis indicates that in 2003 your Year 6 pupils appear to have made:

1)     well below average progress in English

2)     well below average progress in Maths

3)     well below average progress in Science

Information about your school’s performance can be seen on EsiNet at the “Improving Performance Step by Step” site, along with other comparative data.  This site has recently bee updated with provisional 2003 data. To visit the site, go to your EsiNet Home Page or click  http://www.norfolkesinet.org.uk/ and click on “School Management & Governance”, then “School Management Resources”, enter your DfES number and password and you will be able to select “Improving Performance Step by Step”.  This is accessible from any computer with internet access as long as you have the password.

Small schools have been included in this analysis though small numbers mean that individual pupils account for a high proportion of the cohort.  Results may therefore fluctuate dramatically from year to year.

The enclosed pack includes information about your pupils, in the form of a chart and a value added table for each of the three subjects, English, Maths and Science.  This year we have been able to plot the pupils using fine graded levels instead of point scores and we hope you will find this more useful.  As last year, a “Transition Matrix” sheet is enclosed for English and Maths, all as described in the attached guidance notes.

Also included in this pack is the Fischer Family Trust’s “Estimates against Actuals” report for your school, together with guidance notes headed “Understanding Estimates against Actuals”.

If you have any further queries regarding the enclosures or any related issues, please do not hesitate to contact me.

With best wishes,

Mrs Chris Jackson
