I attach, for your information, two lists relating to this year’s mobile planning process. One identifies those schools that may require mobile accommodation for September 2003; the other identifies those schools to be considered for mobile removals. Your school does not appear on either of these lists but this is an opportunity for you to check and comment on this situation.

The purpose of sending you this information is to:-

  1. share the criteria by which schools were identified;
  2. advise you of the procedure you should follow, should you wish to apply for mobile accommodation or want a mobile removed.

Criteria

Schools that may require mobile accommodation for September 2003 have been identified using the following criteria:-

  1. the deficit of forecast roll in 2003/04 (1)  against capacity is 27 or more, and;
  2. a deficit at this level or more is expected to continue into 04/05(1), and;
  3. there are insufficient places in other local schools, and;
  4. we are not aware of any other issues which would stop the siting of a mobile eg, restricted site, building project underway or about to start.

Schools to be considered for mobile removals have been identified using the following criteria:-

  1. the school has mobiles owned by the LEA, and;
  2. the surplus of forecast roll in 2003/04 (1)  against capacity is 27 or more, and;
  3. a surplus at this level or more is expected to continue into 04/05(1), and;
  4. there are no specific issues we are aware of which would stop the removal of a mobile eg, mobile not in a condition to be moved.

What you need to do

If you believe your school will require mobile accommodation in September 2003 or you want mobile(s) removed, please return the attached green form.

NB The limited funding available for mobile provision means that it will not be possible to consider the provision of mobiles for anything other than to meet growth in pupil numbers from within the school’s traditional catchment area.

These forms should be returned by 20th December 2002 if possible. If this date cannot be met, the final return date is Friday, 10th January 2003. Please note, the budget to provide mobile accommodation will be fixed. Therefore, until all returns are received and considered, it will not be possible to confirm the number or nature of mobile accommodation for any school. Schools will be contacted again early in the Spring Term. We will try to coincide this with information from the Admissions Team to all secondary schools regarding their intake numbers for September 2003.
