Dear Colleague
Over the last
twelve months a working group has been developing an SEN Provision Self
Evaluation tool intended to support schools in completing the Norfolk School
Self Review, contributing to development planning and focussing evidence vital
at an Ofsted Inspection when judging aspects of inclusive practice. As you will be aware the new Ofsted
Framework for Inspection introduced in September 2003 places greater emphasis
on inclusion.
To support
schools in the initial use of the Self Evaluation tool an extra half-day RDA
visit has been allocated during the summer term 2004. This will involve RDAs in discussing the results of the school’s
self evaluation and supporting evidence with the Headteacher, SENCO and SEN
Governor. Although the documents are
intended to support ongoing self evaluation, the process this year should build
on any previous evaluation of effectiveness of SEN provision and give all
schools clearer evidence to support judgements.
The self
evaluation pack contains:
·
Description of
background to, and use of, the self evaluation materials
·
Self
Evaluation Core Statements
·
Core
Statements Supporting Notes
·
Self
Evaluation Additional Statement Grids
·
Sample SEN
Development Plan
·
Sample sources
of evidence and glossary
This process
should enable schools to develop an accurate and informed judgement on a key
dimension of inclusive practice and, as such, responds clearly to the new
Government Strategy for SEN, “Removing Barriers to Achievement”.
Yours
sincerely
