The DfES has recently issued a leaflet (reference PPY 181) ‘Is your child missing out? School Attendance Information for Parents’. Copies are available to schools from the address below.
A series of four colour posters are also available in A4 size (reference PPY 181 A4) or A3 size (reference PPY 181 A3). These posters which are designed to be colour printed are also available as downloadable JPEG files from the internet. Sample posters and the leaflet can be seen at www.dfes.gov.uk/schoolattendance – from this address click on Department Publications in the left-hand box. You might wish to view both these items before deciding on the appropriateness of them for use in your school.
Schools might wish to consider issuing the leaflet to parents whose children’s attendance is of concern, whilst the posters could, for example, be used for publicity in reception areas. It is hoped that as many schools as possible will use either one or both of these resources as a means of raising parental awareness of the importance of school attendance.
