Key Stage 1 Assessment Update

To all Headteachers in Norfolk Primary Schools with Year 2 pupils

Please bring this letter to the attention of your Year 2 teachers.

Writing records

As you are aware, the use of the ‘official’ writing record is optional. We came across the attached sheets at a regional meeting for audit moderators at the end of last term. Both are based on the idea of highlighting statements which seem to fit the writing. If either appeal to you, please feel free to copy and use them.

Errata

QCA have alerted us to the following errors in the mark schemes.

In the Teacher’s Handbook for the English tests:

On p27, under the ‘mark’ column.

Question 5 should read:    ‘Both ticked correctly for 1 mark’

Question 6 should read:    ‘3 correct = 2 marks’

                                              ‘2 correct = 1 mark’

                                              ‘1 mark    = 0 mark’

In the Teacher’s Handbook for the Maths tests.

On p28. The number of marks awarded for level 1 should read  ‘5 - 6’.

Support materials on EsiNet.

We have posted some useful question grids on Esinet for use in the reading tasks. As other materials become available, they will also find their way on to the website. Watch out for last minute updates from QCA and other useful support materials. To find the materials, log on to www.norfolkesinet.org.uk . Start at the Home page, select Teacher Zone. Then on the next screen select Curriculum and then English and Literacy key stage 1 – 2. Then select Assessment and click on Key Stage 1 SATS at the top of the page.

I hope you find this helpful. If you have ideas or resources that you would be willing to share with other teachers, please contact me and I will arrange for the materials to be put on the Internet.

Yours sincerely,
