'Talking Partners'

Head Teachers' Briefing

Talking Partners is an intensive ten- week oral support programme for children in Yrs.R-3. The programme targets small groups of EAL or other children who need oral language enrichment and practice in focused listening and speaking skills.

Children participating in the programme make accelerated progress in oracy. Talking Partners is closely linked to NLS targets and can be delivered within or alongside the Literacy Hour.

The course should enable participants to:

·       Deliver Talking Partners programmes in their school

·       Build on oracy to develop children's literacy skills

·       Make/use resources which promote language development.

Target audience: LSAs. Preference will be given to staff from schools with at least one EAL child who would benefit from Talking Partners and to schools who would be committed to delivering the programme during 2002/03

It is important that a head teacher, class teacher or language

co-ordinator  attends the first session of the course (9.15 -11.00) where an outline of the programme and details of support for implementation will be given.
