RE: Software to support teaching and learning geometry

The Key Stage 3 Strategy recommends the use of dynamic geometry software, and it is also a powerful tool at primary, Key Stage 4 and post 16. Dynamic Interactive Geometry Software such as Cabri-Geometry II is a perfect tool for the exploration of geometry and users naturally learn the correct vocabulary, concepts and procedures.

The Norfolk LEA Mathematics Team has negotiated a significant discount from Chatwell-Yorke for the dynamic geometry package described below. We can offer Cabri-Geometry II at 20% discount for the single user licence or 30% discount for a site licence, provided there is sufficient interest to enable the authority to qualify for such a discount.

Cabri handles all the constructions students have traditionally done with their ruler, pencil, compass and protractor, and also goes much further. Lines, circles, points, triangles, vectors etc are easily created, manipulated and measured. Students can see patterns, make conjectures, draw their own conclusions and create alternative examples of the construction.
