URGENT AND IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Dear Headteacher

KS2 SATs Mark Schemes

QCA have requested us to pass on the following information to you:

1.      There is an error in the KS2 test checklists recently sent to schools.  In the

section for 13th May and 15th May it states that the science and English mark scheme can be opened once the science and English papers have been dispatched to the external marker.  THIS IS NOT CORRECT.

The Key Stage 2 mark scheme packs contain mark schemes for ALL THREE     SUBJECTS and these must not be opened until AFTER ALL the Key Stage 2 tests have taken place, and ALL TEST MATERIALS HAVE BEEN DISPATCHED to the external marker, i.e. Friday 16th May at the earliest.

2.      As in previous years LEA and QCA representatives will make unannounced visits

to a sample of schools before, during or after the test period.  Schools are required to allow LEA or QCA representatives access to all statutory test material and to make arrangements to allow them to observe a test being administered if required.  Where schools have made special arrangements, or have corresponded with QCA or LEA, copies of letters and other documents should be made available on request.  Further advice on monitoring is available on pages 27/28 in the 2003 KS2 Assessment and Reporting Arrangements booklet.

If you have any concerns regarding this letter, or any aspects of the KS2 testing arrangements, please contact Dave Elliott at the Professional Development Centre (01603) 433276 Extn 236.

Yours sincerely

Dave Elliott
