17th December 2001

Dear Colleague,

I have recently been appointed as the School Liaison Officer at Easton College. Following the success of the opening of the Schools Barn, I am looking forward to resuming school visits and developing educational links with as many schools as possible.

Easton College provides excellent facilities for visiting school parties. With the lifting of the ‘foot and mouth’ restrictions, there will be the chance once more for children to observe livestock on the farm. As well the numerous educational opportunities provided by farm visits, there are also other areas of interest, such as the horticultural unit, the ‘dell’ conservation area, woodland and the garden at the School Barn which includes a pond, wild flowers and an organic vegetable plot.

We are proposing two special activity weeks for Spring 2002, details of which are enclosed. Visits are welcome at any time of year and can be tailored to the needs of the school. We are able to offer activities which link to the Geography or Science National Curriculum at KS1, KS2 and KS3 for Middle Schools.

A small charge is made for visits ( £1 per pupil) to contribute to the cost of administration and resources. Please note that the “Getting Stuck into Soil” special activity days during Science Week are free. The Investigation Challenge, set during the week will be open to all schools, even if they do not attend the event. ( An application form can be requested using the accompanying booking form.) All entries  ( poster format) will be displayed in the Barn and the best one will receive a prize donated by Ben Burgess and Company, of  Norwich.

I hope very much that you will make a visit to the College. Please use the enclosed booking forms.  I would also welcome any comments or suggestions you might have. I have enclosed a pre-paid addressed envelope for your reply.

If you need further information please contact me at the college.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

Stella Ball, School Liaison Officer
