The
Folklore of Plants
Come
and join us for a light-hearted and informal look at some of the stories and
beliefs that lie behind many of the common plants of our countryside.
Which
tree would you plant to keep away witches ?
What
leaf do you wear to prevent being pinched ?
Which
plant told spitfire pilots the time ?
What
flowers did Queen Victoria regularly send to Disraeli ?
Find out the answers and much, much more about the
plants around you as we tell the tales, ramble through the woods and cross the
heath.
3rd – 5th May, 2002
Spring Birdwatching

weekend is designed for those who wish to look at and appreciate birds and
enjoy their environment. We hope to look at the woodlands at dusk, hear a dawn
chorus, visit Blakeney Point and other
sites on the North Norfolk Coast watching for visitors and passage migrants. Everyone
is welcome, but sorry, it will not suit ‘twitchers’!
7th – 9th June, 2002

Their formation and development.
Their importance to our wildlife and the British
landscape.
Their biodiversity including the plant and animal
communities.
Man’s use of woodlands.
The
course will concentrate on the ancient woods within the grounds of Holt Hall.
14th – 16th June, 2002

area and to become acquainted with some of its diverse range of flora and
fauna.
The weekend will include . . .
A boat trip to Blakeney Point and the seal colony.
A chance to explore saltmarsh and sandune.
A study of a rocky shore and the inhabitants of its
tidal pools.
And lots more as time, weather and tide permit !
21st – 23rd June, 2002
Damsels and Dragons

Visit lakes, heaths, rivers and broads while you
learn more about the amazing lives of these beautiful winged creatures.
11th – 13th October, 2002
Autumn Birdwatching
Another opportunity to watch birds on wonderful
coastal reserves, saltmarshes, wild heathland and within the beautiful grounds
of Holt Hall. So whether you consider yourself a beginner, or a reasonably
