New Educational Resource

'It's not about food, it's about feelings'

An educational resource about eating disorders and related issues, for teachers and youth workers.

This exciting pack, developed by EDA, aims to give the necessary information to enable workers to feel competent and comfortable when teaching about eating disorders and the surrounding issues.

It includes a 16 minute video commissioned by EDA, featuring young people who have had an eating disorder discussing their feelings before, during and after recovery with a recognised specialist in the field adding a medical view. There are comprehensive notes on many issues and numerous suggestions for activities. These suggestions have been left relatively open so that they are flexible enough to tailor them to many different group sizes, ages, abilities and time scales. However, there are also some straightforward photo-copiable worksheets.

The types of activities suggested include discussions and debate topics, project suggestions, essays, a true/false quiz, role play exercises, statistics exercises.

Topics included in the pack are:-

·       What are eating disorders - the signs symptoms, causes and consequences
·       Self esteem, difficult emotions and coping mechanisms
·       Body image and the media
·       Food, good nutrition
·       Body changes through Puberty
·       Treatment and Recovery
·       Case studies from the Video

Within schools the pack is multidisciplinary with work for Food Technology, Biology, Psychology, English and Drama, I.C.T as well as PSHE. There are also examples of EDA literature, other suggested resource materials plus information on the training that EDA offers.
