The King’s Lynn Festival is an annual Festival started in 1951 by Lady Fermoy with the idea of bringing music to the people of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk. Now in its 52nd year the Festival, working very much to the wishes of Lady Fermoy runs for 10 days every summer bringing top class performers from the worlds of classical music, drama and art and children’s entertainment to the area. Local events run along side the main programme to produce a feast of entertainment covering all tastes and ages.
We are very keen to increase our awareness in the schools in the area and would like to develop the education side of our programme through literature and drama and by developing better links with Norfolk schools. This year we have top children’s author Robin Jarvis coming to the festival and for the younger children a performance of Sir Goward the Coward and the Feasty Beasty. In previous years we have had children’s music concerts, poets and theatre productions. From a purely musical angle, many of the country’s major orchestras have education programmes which we would like to take advantage of and be able to give local children more of an insight into how an orchestra works and attend workshops.
