 February 2002

Dear Headteacher

ROYAL NORFOLK SHOW – 26 & 27 June 2002

I would like to bring to your attention the opportunities for schools to visit the Royal Norfolk Show.  There are few occasions when so many organisations and resources for education are gathered together on one site, providing a highly educational and enjoyable experience for children.

For the past sixteen years we have organised a series of trails around the Norfolk Show which have given schools the opportunity to visit the Show and to follow one or more of these trails which are based on cross curricular themes as well as subjects in the National Curriculum.  Trails include Countryside & Conservation, Food & Farming, Livestock and Machinery.  There is also the option for teachers to develop their own Composite Trail, using sections taken from any of the other trails.

If the completed trail sheets are sent back to the Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association after the Show, the entrance fee for each child completing a trails sheet is refunded to the school.  The trail sheets can be completed after the Show as follow up work or however the school considers the greatest value can be derived from the visit.  Thus it is possible for schools to visit the Show at no cost to the school (except transport).

The Clan Trust is once again sponsoring the school art competition entitled "Food, Farming or the Countryside".  Art, including the winning pictures will be on display at the Spring Fling on 27 March. Prizes will be presented at the Royal Norfolk Show and the winning art will be on display at the RNAA Education Initiative Marquee.

If you would like more information about the Show please complete the attached form and return it direct to the RNAA at the Show Office.  Each year for the last seven shows around 5,000-6,000 children have come to the Royal Norfolk Show in organised school groups and have obviously found their visit to be a very worthwhile experience.

I look forward to seeing your school at the Show in June in the RNAA Education Initiative Marquee which includes the Show Trails, Art Competition, Schools Challenge, exhibitions and information, which can be found opposite Dereham Gate.

Yours sincerely,
