September 2002
Dear Headteacher, Staff, Parents and
Governors
The
World's Biggest Coffee Morning is fast approaching and will take place
on
Friday 27th
September
Becoming involved in the World's Biggest
Coffee Morning is a fantastic and
simple way to make a real difference to
people living with cancer and their
families.
The theme for this year's event is 'Where
will you hold yours?' Coffee
mornings can be held anywhere. The majority of supporters hold their event
at home, work or school. Venues last year included church halls,
village
halls, hospitals, shopping centres,
prisons, airports, theatres, retirement
homes, golf clubs, gyms, and railway
stations.
·
Last year, a tremendous £56,000 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Relief
at 450 coffee mornings in Norfolk alone.
The funds raised in 2001 really
have made a huge difference to local people
living with cancer and have
helped to support many vital local
services.
·
Macmillan Cancer Relief fund specialist nurses and doctors who deliver
the best in cancer care, as well as much
needed cancer treatment centres,
financial help for those who need it most
and a range of cancer information
services.
·
Macmillan is providing patients with the opportunity to have more of a
say in their treatment and to challenge
attitudes to cancer. By supporting
Macmillan you will help patients be heard.
·
In the UK over a million people are living with cancer and four in ten
people will be diagnosed with cancer during
their lifetime. These figures
are forecast to double by 2020. Macmillan
Cancer Relief is a UK charity
which helps to provide the expert care and
practical and emotional support
that make a real difference for people
living with cancer.
·
People living in Norwich and Waveney are benefiting from teams of
Macmillan nurses working in the community
and in hospitals alongside other
health professionals. We are funding 6
Macmillan clinical nurse specialist
posts, radiographer posts, a dietician, an
occupational therapist, a GP
practitioner post, a consultant in
palliative medicine and the continued
funding of the Macmillan Carers scheme
based at Priscilla Bacon Lodge.
·
In West Norfolk, the recently completed £1.2m Macmillan Care and
Treatment Centre based at The Queen
Elizabeth Hospital, King's Lynn will
bring together local integrated cancer
services in one unit for the first
time. The appeal is also funding a lead
nurse in cancer care, a consultant
in palliative medicine and a clinical nurse
specialist in the area.
·
We are hoping that many local schools will want to host a coffee
morning to support our local appeal. We are
asking for your help once
again, so we can break our record both
locally and nationally. You can do
this easily by registering online at http://www.worldsbiggestcoffeemorning.org.uk/
Through this specially created website you
can also make online
donations.
· You can also register by calling 0845 602
1246, faxing your details on
0845 602 3602, or writing to Macmillan
Cancer Relief, Grosvenor House,
112-114 Prince of Wales Road, Norwich,
Norfolk NR1 1NZ.
·
Once you have registered you will receive a fundraising pack to help
you organise your event. Nescafe and Kit
Kat have generously donated coffee
and biscuit vouchers for every coffee
morning host. We can also supply
balloons, ribbon, leaflets and other
promotional materials from our local
fundraising office to help publicise your
coffee morning.
