Open Poetry Competition

for

SCHOOLS

 

with prizes on offer to pupils and to their respective schools

 

This follows our highly successful competitions in 1999, 2000 & 2001 which resulted in the publication of high quality anthologies entitled Pictures From My Mind” - “Thoughts From The Year 2000” & “Rhyme Verses Reason”

The new competition is being organised to cater for the following age groups.

 

7 years & under / 8-11 years              11-14 years / 15-18 years

PRIZE MONEY will be awarded as follows:

 

15-18 years             1st prize       £50 + £50 to school

                            2nd prize       £25 + £25 to school

11-14 years             1st prize       £50 + £50 to school

                            2nd prize       £25 + £25 to school

8-11 years                    1st prize       £40 + £40 to school

                            2nd prize       £20 + £20 to school

7 years & under         1st prize       £40 + £40 to school

                            2nd prize       £20 + £20 to school

 

In addition we will award a special commemorative laminated parchment of their poem to FIVE 3rd prize winners in each of the four categories PLUS a commemorative pen to 10 runners up in each of the four categories, making a total prize fund of almost £1,000.

 

The school prize will be awarded to the school attended by the pupil at time of writing.

 

Each contestant is restricted to ONE ENTRY ONLY, But Schools may submit as many entries as they wish.

The poem submitted should have ONE AUTHOR ONLY

 

All suitable entries will be considered for publication in a high quality anthology of verse.

 

To enter contestants should send ONE original poem, consisting of no more than 20 lines to:

Name, age, (at time of writing) name of the School, full school address or home address (or both) must be included at the top, or on the reverse of the same page on which the poem appears.

 

The closing date for this competition is:-     19th April 2002

 

The competition will be judged by a panel of Teachers and other Professional Persons.
