Dear Colleagues,

Re: Sponsorship of Bahati Msaki

I am writing to thank you for your continuing support of this scheme. Bahati has had a second successful year at Medical school and passed her end of year examination with good grades.  Over 500 Norfolk teachers, advisers and support staff have contributed so far, raising almost £16,000.  We have also received some very generous one-off donations including one from Education Finance staff. This is fantastic but it will only guarantee a place for Bahati for about four years of her five-year course.  We have to raise a further £5-6,000 to ensure that she can complete it.  I spoke to Norfolk Headteachers at the Annual Conference last year and we were in agreement that it would be disastrous to have allowed Bahati to start her medical training but not enable her to complete it.  I am therefore asking if you would either join the payroll scheme for the first time or renew your commitment for a further year. Remember all that is required, is an agreement to pay a minimum of £1 per month from your salary, for one year.  This is a totally painless way of supporting a really good cause.  All you have to do is complete the accompanying pro-forma which your Headteacher has photocopied, and send it to me via Hamonds.  Capita will continue to do the rest.  This is their, very generous, contribution to the project.  If you would prefer to make a one off payment it would be very helpful to do this through Gift Aid and then we can reclaim the tax you have paid.  Please contact me for a separate proforma.

Please help if you can and try to involve as many staff in your school or section as possible.  This applies to all staff in school not simply teachers.  Tanzania is one of the poorest countries in the world.  It is in desperate need of trained medical staff.  Bahati is committed to working with her own people.  We can make that a reality. Some schools have not joined the scheme yet – it is not too late to start.

Thank you very much for reading this letter and for your support.

Yours sincerely,

Robert Young
