School admission policy : 2023/24 (Agreed)
THIS SCHOOL WAS OVER-SUBSCRIBED FOR SEPTEMBER 2022
Procedures where the college is oversubscribed After the admission of pupils with an education, health and care plan
naming the college, if there are more applications for places than there are
places available, we will give preference to children living nearest to the
college, according to the following rules in this order of priority 1. Looked
after children (previously known as children in the care of the local
authority) and all previously looked after children. Previously looked after
children are children who were looked after, but ceased to be so because they
were adopted (or became subject to a child arrangement order or special
guardianship order). 2. Children who have a sibling on roll at the
academy at the time of the proposed admission. Siblings are “brothers or
sisters living at the same address including adopted children, step-brothers,
step-sisters and children in foster care within a family unit. This includes
siblings in the Sixth Form 3. Children
of staff at the academy: a) where the member of staff has been employed at
the academy for two or more years at the time at which the application for
admission to the academy is made; and/or o b) the member of staff is
recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill
shortage; 4. Children
who have been offered a place under the musical potential, aptitude and
ability criteria. 5. Children
living nearest the academy, by straight line distance (“as the crow flies”) |
School admission policy : 2025/26 (Agreed)
All children whose education,
health and care (EHC) plan name Great Yarmouth Charter Academy will be admitted
before any other places are allocated.
If Great Yarmouth Charter
Academy is not oversubscribed, all applicants will be offered a place.
In the event that Great
Yarmouth Charter Academy receives more applications than the number of places
it has available, places will be given to those children who meet any of the
criteria set out below, in order until all places are filled:
1.
Highest priority will be given to looked after children and all previously
looked after children who apply for a place at Great Yarmouth Charter Academy.
2.
Priority will next be given to children with siblings at Great Yarmouth Charter
Academy (this includes siblings in the Sir Isaac Newton East sixth form).
Siblings include step siblings, foster siblings, adopted siblings and other
children living permanently at the same address. Priority will not be given to
children with siblings who are former pupils of Great Yarmouth Charter Academy.
3. Priority will next be given to children of staff at Great Yarmouth Charter Academy, in either of the following circumstances: The member of staff has been employed at Great Yarmouth Charter Academy for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission to the school is made, or the member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage
4.
Priority will next be given to children who attend named feeder schools. Our
named feeder schools are Great Yarmouth Primary Academy and Cobholm Primary
Academy
5.
Priority will next be given to children who qualify for a musical aptitude
place as set out in section 7.2 above (Up to 10% of PAN i.e. 17 places). For
the avoidance of doubt, where a child has qualified for a music aptitude place,
but they have already been allocated their place under the categories above
(points 1-4), the number of places left within this category will be reduced by
the same number.
6. Priority will next be given
to children living nearest Great Yarmouth Charter Academy, by a straight line
distance
