School admission policy : 2025/26 (Agreed)
If there are more applications for places than there are places available, the Trust will admit children in the following order of priority:
● Looked after children (previously known as children in the care of the local authority) and all previously looked after children. Previously looked after children are children who were looked after but ceased to be so because they were adopted (or became subject to a child arrangement order or special guardianship order);
● Children who have a sibling on roll at the academy at the time of the proposed admission. Siblings are “brothers or sisters living at the same address including adopted children, step-brothers, step-sisters and children in foster care within a family unit;
● Children of staff at the academy: a) where the member of staff has been employed at the academy for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission to the academy is made. and/or b) the member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.
● Children who have been offered a place under the musical/performing arts potential, aptitude and ability criteria; and
● Children who currently attend Eastgate Academy, Greyfriars Primary School, North Wootton Primary School, St Michael’s Primary School, South Wootton Junior and Whitefriars Primary School.
● Children living nearest the academy, by straight line distance (“as the crow flies”).
Parents who wish to apply for their child to be considered for admittance under the criteria of potential for or aptitude in music must complete an Expression of Interest form, available from the academy. When completed, the form should be returned to the Principal by the date indicated on the form, of the year prior to transfer. The academy will audition children with an expression of interest and will make every reasonable effort to inform parents of the outcome prior to parent’s submission of the Common Application Form to the Local Authority.

School admission policy : 2027/28 (Proposed)
All children whose education, health and care (EHC) plan
name King Edward VII Academy will be admitted before any other places are
allocated.
In the event that King Edward VII Academy receives more
applications than the number of places it has available, the order in which
places will be allocated will be as follows:
Highest priority will be given to looked after children and
all previously looked after children. Applications in this category may need to
be supported by documentary evidence confirming the child’s status. Ideally any
evidence should be received by the application deadline in the normal admission
round.
Priority will next be given to children with siblings on
roll at King Edward VII Academy at the point of application for the new pupil.
Siblings include full siblings (sharing both parents), half siblings (sharing
one parent), step siblings (one child’s parent married to the other child’s
parent), foster siblings, adopted siblings or children of their parent’s
cohabiting partner. In all cases the sibling must live at the child’s home
address (as defined by this policy). Priority will not be given to children
with siblings who are former pupils of King Edward VII Academy. The sibling’s
full details must be provided in the application form.
Priority will next be given to children of staff members
based at King Edward VII Academy, in either of the following circumstances:
The member of staff has been employed at King Edward VII
Academy for two or more years at the time at which the application for
admission to the school is made, or
The member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post for
which there is a demonstrable skill shortage
Priority will next be given to children who qualify for
aptitude places, as follows:
Musical aptitude (up to 5% of PAN, i.e. 11 places)
Sporting aptitude (up to 5% of PAN, i.e. 11 places)
Priority will next be given to children who attend named
feeder schools. Our named feeder schools are Eastgate Academy, Greyfriars
Primary School, North Wootton Primary School, St Michael’s Primary School,
South Wootton Junior School and Whitefriars Primary School.
Priority will next be given to all other children who do not
fall into any of the oversubscription categories above.
