You might be aware that the School Library Association (SLA), an organisation committed to supporting everyone involved in school libraries, has an active branch in Norfolk and Suffolk. A small group of school librarians founded the branch in 2019, primarily to meet the training needs of school librarians in the region, as so much of the training on offer was located out of our area.

Since the closure of Norfolk County Council's Education Library Service, the branch has been looking at ways that we can help staff running libraries in primary schools. One of the things that everyone involved has found most useful is the chance to speak to other people doing the same job and to share some of our best practices.

With this in mind, the first Networking event for everyone working in school libraries in Norfolk, both primary and secondary, will be taking place on Monday 21 November. More details below. This will provide a chance for you to share what you would find beneficial in future, and to ask questions of other library staff, whatever stage you are at in your role running the library.

We'll have some helpful fact sheets to take away, the visit in itself can count towards your CPD as it will provide a chance to see another school library, and there will of course be refreshments available.

Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions. Do also contact the branch if you would like to be added to the mailing list, even if you can't make the event.

Please do contact us at norfolksuffolksla@outlook.com with any questions or queries.
