Autumn 2009 School and Pupil Census

The DCSF requires all schools to complete their 2009 Autumn Census on Thursday 1st October 2009. Please ensure that your School Census file reached the Information and Research Centre not later than 2nd October 2009. Files should be sent using Anycomms (AVCO) or S2S data transfer system.

As part of the department's aim in seeking to reduce the number of surveys sent to the schools and Local Authorities, the October School Census comprises the data collected in May 2009, except:

Attendance data will be collected for individual pupils, both 'On Roll' and 'No Longer on Roll' for the period between 13th April 2009 to 22nd May 2009.

Exclusions
We would like to remind schools of the importance of ensuring that all exclusions are notified to the Attendance and Exclusions Team and entered onto your schools MIS system.
We are aware from contact with the DCSF that schools have, on occasion, not changed the exclusion data to reflect that a permanent exclusion has been withdrawn in favour of a managed move. This means that the census count for permanent exclusions can appear higher that it actually is.

The Autumn Census will select all those exclusions with start dates between 1st January 2009 to 12th April 2009 inclusive and for which exclusions Appeal is not equal to 'R' or 'O'. If you need assistance with Exclusions please phone Sally Moy on 01603 224017 or Allan Turner on 01603 224102.

Post 16 Learning Aims
The Autumn 2009 Census will collect data on all learning aims being pursued by pupils in Year 12 or above (regardless of age and the level of their learning aims), and for all level 3 or higher learning aims being pursued by pupils in Year 11 or below. Data should be returned for All learning aims (as at the first day of term) being pursued in 2009/2010. Learning aims should only be recorded at the main registration school.

Registration for Post 16 Pupils
Post 16 pupils attending courses at more than one school should be recorded as 'Dually Registered'- the school of registration 'M', the providing school 'S'. 'G',guest, should only be used for a pupil attending another school as a one off.

Could all non-e1 schools also remember to do your October 2009 LA return as usual.
