School Kitchens and Dining Rooms - Funding
An opportunity for schools to apply for small grants to support work on school kitchens and dining rooms to bring about improvements to school food provision and to increase the uptake of school meals.
As a result of receiving DCSF funding of £115,515, we are able to invite schools in Norfolk to apply for match-funded grants of up to £5,000 which will allow minor changes to be made that will directly impact on the uptake of school meals by improving the dining experience.
Priority will be given to schools that are part of the Healthy Schools Programme and have completed the national online audit (a minimum requirement being the completion of the Healthy Eating section of the audit).
Areas of work likely to be appropriate to this grant include:
This funding cannot be used to cover routine maintenance and work on gas canopies and will not be available to schools who have already secured funding through the DCSF's capital funding for kitchens.
Funding will be allocated by a selection panel and successful schools will be notified individually by the end of November. Funding will be available in December and any work/activity must be completed and paid for by the end of August 2010. A list of successful school will be published in December.
Application Process
Schools are required to complete a simple application form and submit it to healthy.schools@norfolk.gov.uk. Allocation of the funding is dependant on agreement to provide a simple report on completion of the work in order to support evaluation of these approaches.

Successful schools notified by end November 2009
Funding available December 2009
Work to be completed and paid for by August 2010
