Model Policy: Cover for Teacher Absence 2009
Further to MI 126/09, a model policy: cover for teacher absence 2009 version has been drafted and is available now to be downloaded in Word format for Primary and Secondary schools. The policy although in draft and subject to consultation with county trade union representatives, is recommended for immediate use in schools. The policy takes account of those changes made to the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document 2009 which is available online at TeacherNet, Teachers' Pay. This means that changes made annually have a statutory basis although Section 4 of the Document constitutes statutory guidance. The model policy also makes reference to documentation issued by national WAMG on rarely cover WAMG - WAMG guidance documents.
This policy in its current draft format is subject to consultation with union colleagues and should there be any amendments, a revised version will be issued. However, union colleagues have been fully involved in liaison with the LA in the process of looking at the rarely cover changes.
In the longer term, this policy will become part of the overall planned changes to the Schools Personnel Handbook.
